Battlecruiser - Protector Class
The Protector Class Battlecruser is a type ship in the Battlestar Hyperion Series written by Jim Quigley.
History[]
- The Colonial Protector was a heavy cruiser in the Colonial fleet. A flexible design, the protector was used in many roles including fleet support, star exploration, and system defense. These ships are often found escorting the larger ships or in command of smaller battlegroups. Originally designed for the protection of star systems and escort duties. Its complement of fighters in addition to its impressive firepower made the protector class vessels one of the most well rounded ships in the Colonial Fleet.
- A battlecruiser is approximately 3,200 ft. long (975 meters) and has a crew of over 1000. It’s a smaller version of a Battlestar. The flight pods are connected to the main hull by a single massive strut instead of two.
- Protector Class production was discontinued shortly after the First Cylon War in favor of the smaller class battlestars.
- Less than ten remain in service at the time of the second cylon war.
